We are the Pi-Pielots

We are a group of students passionate about all things flying inspired to dream big and look towards the skies for our PIE final Project. This project would not have been possible without each of our unique skills and background.

The Team

Kenji Sakaie

Kenji Sakaie is a mechanical engineering student interested in refining his design and analysis abilities. He worked to create a reliable aircraft that is powerful vertical flight and able to survive rigorous active testing. Kenji sought to improve his knowledge of system modeling and mechanical design for aerospace applications. He also enjoys combat sports, hiking, playing classical music, and arguing about philosophy.

Christopher Vidaurrazaga

Christopher Vidaurrazaga is a mechanical engineering student interested in optimizing the flight time of our bi-copter. Christopher worked on creating test stands for yaw as well as pitch and roll. He also worked on the final airframe and protecting the components of the bi-copter from any inevitable crashes. Christopher is addicted to LEGO and loves Curling.

Jojo Liu

Jojo Liu is a Mechanical Engineering student with a strong passion for aerospace engineering and guidance, navigation, and control (GNC). He was our test pilot and spent the majority of his efforts into co-developing the flight control software alongside Rohan, focusing on implementing orientation estimation, some PID logic, and a lot of flight testing. In his free time, he enjoys playing classical music and crashing rockets in Kerbal Space Program.

Rohan Shah

Rohan Shah is an Electrical and Computer Engineering student with an interest in controls and robotics. He has wanted to build a V22 Osprey inspired aircraft since he was in 9th Grade. Rohan was responsible for designing the avionics and collaborated on the firmware and control algorithms with Jojo. In his free time he enjoys reading Sci-Fi, hiking, and sailing.

Liam Bennicoff

Liam Bennicoff is a cross registered Babson student facisnated with Mechanical Engineering. Ever since his grandpa helped him build a full sized trebuchet, he has been trying to learn how the world works and how you can manipulate it.
